HISTORY
The US Virgin Islands were purchased from Denmark in 1917. The island architecture reflects the colonial influence in the Caribbean. The oldest part of the four-building complex that makes up the Sugar Apple B&B is a 1780 Danish townhouse.
The Sugar Apple B&B was originally opened as the Pink Fancy hotel.
Years ago the building was a private club. Fame came when Jane Gottlieb, the Ziegfeld Follies star, opened it as a hotel in 1948 under the name, the Pink Fancy. In the 50s, the hotel became a mecca attracting Noel Coward along with many other writers and artists vacationing in the Caribbean.
